The Kyoto International Woodprint Association was officially inaugurated in the spring of 1997. The Steiner Print Workshop originated and developed the Association when it became clear that such an organization was necessary in order to successfully hold touring international exhibitions and competitions.  The first members were the students and friends of the Workshop. Membership is open to anyone, whether they study printmaking or not. If they have a love for woodblock prints and a desire to see them exhibited periodically, they can join the Association and help make such exhibitions a reality.

 

Association memberships are annual.  The basic fee is 5,000 yen and includes invitations to special events, lectures and participation in Workshop and Association activities. The newsletter is mailed to every member. In it, members can read of the latest developments inside the Association and learn of what events are being planned.

The Association maintains a collection of prints, mostly woodblocks. This collection is available for any member to view and study. All the works sent to the KIWA exhibitions go into the collection afterwards. No prints in the collection are for sale. There is a library of books relating to woodblock history, artists and processes. Members can borrow from this library. 

 

Payment can be made by an International Postal Money Order made out to RICHARD STEINER. It can be in Japanese yen or US dollars. Another choice is PayPal . Account name is RICHARD STEINER ( rks-rks1@nifty.com ). And another choice is Western Union. The account name is RICHARD KEITH STEINER. Write to the KIWA Office for details about the secret number.

Past membership prints are still available for 5,000 yen each. Order from the KIWA office. All prints are on hand-made Japanese natural fiber paper. They were especially created, carved and printed by KIWA president, R. K. Steiner, for the membership. Click on image to enlarge. All dimensions are in centimeters.
